Usability testing (A-B)

Analysis, redesign and test the applied improvements of an existing product.

How well does a product function in real life and what could be improved? The use of a E-bike is a rising phenomenon in the Netherlands. The user group does not only consist of elderly anymore. The young commuter group of E-bikers is growing, but is the supporting equipment usable in this situation? The focus of this project lay on redesigning the Smart Display of the Sparta F8E E-bike. The problem statement was: the smart device of the e-bike should provide intuitive use of essential functions before, during and after cycling to create an effortless travel for commuters".

Due to extensive usability and E-bike context research, 4 different types of concepts were developed - a basics, a smarter, a futuristic, and phone app concept. My personal aim was to provide Accell with an insight into what extensive usability research could achieve. And present an innovative concept that is as well realistic and can function as an inspiration for future display development for Accell. Therefore the futuristic concept was chosen as the final concept and tested with participants.

The redesign showed a significant improvement in attractiveness, usability, intuitive use and the ability to see all the information in one glance which also improves safety on the road. The current display and the redesign were validated with the use of the AttrakDiff evaluation tool by an A-B test (Hassenzahl, 2008).
